In response to the formal invitation extended by the International Trade Development and the approval of the Chief Executive Officer MIDROC Ethiopia, a group of six employees attended a skill improvement seminar on “Enhancing Competitiveness Through International Purchasing and Supply Chain Management” in Nairobi, Kenya held from December 3 - 7, 2012.
During the workshop, participants engaged in intensive training covering different topics relevant to their work that will improve skill to further discharge their responsibilities. Starting from deep analysis on current trend in international trade to basic understanding of the global environment and multilateral trade system exercised under World Trade Organization, participants were able to arm themselves with sufficient knowledge in the system of international trade transactions.
Furthermore, specifying requirements and planning, analyzing supply markets, obtaining and selecting offers, follow-up purchases through the supply chain, procurement handling in local and international system were discussed in depth. Contract preparation and management, International logistics that includes procedure and documentation of both exports and imports in international logistics management with the understanding of INCOTERMS as well as the global, national and corporate environments were among the topics well covered in the workshop.
Participants were from Ethiopia, Kenya and Zambia.
In their trip report, all participants testified that the training was very useful and relevant to their respective area of assignment.
