The 24th Colloquium of African Geology (CAG) conference was held at the Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa Ethiopia from 8-14 January 2013 under the theme “40 years of GSAF (1973-2013); Earth sciences solutions to African Development Challenges”. It was conducted together with the 14th congress of the Geological Society of Africa (GSAF) and the 40th anniversary of GASF.
The conference was officially opened with the presence of the Minister, Ministry of Mine, W/ro Sinknesh Egigu.
MIDROC Ethiopia Chief Executive Officer and MIDROC Gold Mine General Manager, Dr. Arega Yirdaw made a plenary presentation on the topic of MIDROC Gold’s experience in the mining sector.
MIDROC Ethiopia Technology Group was a diamond sponsor and MIDROC Gold Mine was among platinum sponsors for the conference.
The objectives of the conference are : to promote understanding of the earth sciences and improve standards of earth science education and research in Africa, to provide a forum for discussion and dissemination of information across national boundaries among scientists, associations and institutions engaged in African geology and earth resources as well as to improve natural hazards assessment and disaster mitigation.
Large number of earth scientists from 60 countries attended the CAG 24 which was organized by the Ethiopian Geo-sciences and Mineral Engineering Association (EGMEA) in collaboration with government and non-government organizations.
